Prints and Patterns that Never Go Out of Style

There are trends that go in and out of fashion, but there are some prints and patterns that are always in and chic.

Stripes

You can never go wrong with stripes. Tops with stripes are timeless and versatile, but also a good striped dress or skirt will never go a miss.

Plaid or Tartan

Plaid is a classic Scottish pattern that may seem to be autumnal for all year round, but you are sure to see it on every rack soon.

Plaid can be worn through winter and spring and there will never be a time where it is not considered chic. Safe bets are plaid shorts, sweaters and skirts.

Tartan though does not go well into accessories like shoes, bags and tights as they seem to look a bot odd, but a plaid scarf is a must.

Polka Dots

The size of a polka dot does seem to change, but polka dots of all types, sizes and configurations are forever fashionable. Safe bets for this pattern are tops, cardigans, scarves and dresses. Polka dot purses and handbags are less versatile.

Leopard

Leopard can be worn all year round and in any climate. This print works in any from sweaters to shoes to pants to purses. You can’t go wrong with some leopard.

Floral

The style and size of floral will vary. Floral was once reserved for the spring and summer, but winter floral has been a trend now for quite a few years. Sweaters, tops, dresses, cardigans, belts, shoes, skirts and scarves all look great with a floral print. The only floral item that you may need to think twice about is a floral print handbag.

Houndstooth

Houndstooth stands out on its own, as it is a bold regular geometric that adds some great menswear influence to an outfit. This is also a great pattern to introduce to a mix and it looks great with floral.

Trends to Avoid if you are Short

Harem Pants

Harem pants do look super comfy, but these will do nothing to help your figure. These pants will make you appear shorter where you actually need something that will make your legs look longer.

Thick Belts

Thick belts are a problem if you are petite as they are able to cut you in half and as these are a couple of inches wide you will actually lose those few precious inches. You should rather opt for skinny belts as these will add some style, but without you appearing smaller then you are.

Bold Prints

Large and bold prints will make you look lost and the focus is all drawn to the overpowering print instead of your small body. Rather go for a print that is a little more mellow like a small floral.

Statement Necklaces

Statement necklaces might be in fashion but there are the best suited for petite women. These large necklaces can make your neck look shorter which will then make you look shorter. Go for a longer necklace as this will give the illusion that your neck is longer.

Horizontal Stripes

You will want to stay away from clothing that will make you appear wider then you are. This means that you should stay away from horizontal stripes and opt for vertical stripes instead, as these will elongate you.

Ankle Strap Shoes

The ankle strap shoe has a way of cutting your leg off which can make it look stubby. You want your leg to flow down to your shoe so that they appear longer then they are.

Drop Waist

When it comes to the drop waist many thing that it will make you look taller because your torso looks longer, but this will then make your legs look shorter which is not a good thing. It is best to stay away from drop waist dresses and shirts altogether.
